Following the trend of scientific and technological advice in the parliaments (PTA) of the United States and Europe in past decades, the Parliament of Catalonia approved in 2008 the creation of the Advisory Board of the Parliament of Catalonia for Science and Technology (CAPCIT).

FCRI was integrated into this body, with two members, as one of the institutions representing the scientific and technological world.
